Children loved doing the actions as they listened to the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and the ‘Bear Hunt’ song. They explored further through sensory play investigating materials such as sand, water and corn-flour. They chose different settings within the garden to act out the story. Children used positional language when moving along obstacle courses they had built. They built dens and caves before investigating light sources such as torches and sensory lights. They talked about the bear’s feelings and have been singing songs about family and friendships. Children listened to the traditional song of ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ making a lovely picnic for their teddy bears.
“We’re going on a Bear Hunt.”
“There’s going to be a storm and it’s going to rain.”
“Pitter patter! Pitter patter!”
“A swirling whirling snowstorm.”
“I want it to rain because I get to wear my hood.”
“How are we going to do the bear hunt in the rain?”
“We can splash!”
“Lots of rain splashing on the ground and then it makes a puddle.”
“Welly boots. Get some welly boots.”
“There’s another story with a bear – Goldilocks.”
“The bear is hiding in the cave.”
“The bear is in the house. He wants a friend.”
“He has muddy paws.”
“A narrow cave and he’s got to go through it, tip toe, tip toe.”
“Through it!”
“I like polar bears, they live in the cold, freezing.”
“I like snow. I like sun. In the snow, I can make a Snowman.”
