We’ve been thinking through ideas of how we can be kind to our planet and look after creatures in our environment. Today, children set off building a Mini Bug Hotel by collecting twigs, bark, sticks, leaves and stones into tins before carefully placing them in the nature garden.
“I put sticks and leaves.”
“Yes, I added the leaves for the bugs to eat.”
“They can rest in their new homes.”
“See the ants, they’re walking in a line.”
“Why do ants run away?”
“They get scared.”
“Because of the big people.”
“Spiders live in webs and eat insects. They spin webs.”
“Butterflies are going to live in my hotel.”
“We have new caterpillars at home. They are going to turn into butterflies.”
“How did the leaves get on the ground?”
“The wind blew them. It’s windy.”
“Here, lots of snails over here.”
“Their shell is hard. The birds can’t eat them.”
“It’s a magpie flying up in the sky. It’s landed on the tree.”
