‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ – Update
Children listened to and role-played the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. They developed their understanding of size using comparative language such as ‘tiny, small, smaller, big, bigger, biggest.’ In the home corner, they moved they cooked porridge. Children also enjoyed eating porridge with fruit for Snack Time.
“Goldilocks snuck in the three bears’ house and she said it was too salty.”
“Yukky, yukky, too salty.”
Goldilocks went inside. She eating the porridge. It was too salty. Too sugary.”
“Somebody’s been eating my porridge!”
“She sat on the baby chair and it broke.”
“Very, very bigger.”
“Big bowl, small bowl and tiny bowl.”
“She sat on the biggest chair. It was too hard. The medium sized chair was too soft. She sat on the smallest chair and it broke.”
“This one is too soft. This one is too hard. This one is just right.”
“Goldilocks ate the bears’ porridge and all of the Baby Bear’s porridge.”
“She got scared and then run away.”
“She ran away from the Daddy Bear, the Mummy Bear.”
“She fell over and hit herself, she did, when she sat on the smallest chair.”
“The bears are in their house.”
“I’m drawing this little bear’s house, the door, the window. Does this look like the three bears’ house?”

The children have been observing birds and reading information books to identify which species of birds have visited the Nursery garden. They made tally marks to record their findings.
“Robins. They lay eggs. My nana likes robins.”
“The magpie is carrying a stick in its mouth.”
“It’s building a nest for its babies.”
“I saw the magpie. Magpies eat eggs and worms. They fly.”
“Let’s go and dig for worms in the ground.”
“I’ve seen 2 birds and they have black feathers.”
“Birds fly up in the sky. We walk with our legs and we use our feet for standing.”
“Birds flap with their wings, flap, flap.”
“My mummy gave me wings so I could fly.”
“I’m Spider-Girl and I can fly.”
“I saw a crow a long time ago. It was hanging on the washing line.”
“1 bird, 2 birds, no, 3 birds.”
“He has long wings.”
