In Mountain Room we have been working with our Occupational Therapists to develop the children’s fine-motor skills to help prepare them for mark-making.
To do this we have been doing lots of activities that work the muscles in the children’s hands; as well as providing motivating ways to encourage the children to make marks. These include rescuing animals from playdough; using squirty bottles; pouring between bottles; squeezing sponges and socks full of soapy water; painting with shaving foam or sand on trays or windows; driving cars with wet wheels on water drawing mats; and drawing with large chalk.
