Thank you to families who sent in photos and came to talk to us about Ramadan and Eid. We learnt that Ramadan is a time for reflection with those who are able to fasting during daylight.
Eid-al-Fitr is the festival at the end of Ramadan which begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon. Eid is a huge celebration with Muslims decorating homes, wearing best clothes, visiting family and friends, having a huge feast, giving presents and going to the mosque. We also listened to a fun song about the Ramadan Moon, drew colourful hand prints with designs after looking at some henna and Mehndi patterns and we looked at pictures of Ramadan lanterns.
“My mummy and daddy make a cake.”
“I get presents and go to mosque.”
“I wear my mum’s big shoes and wear my new Ramadan clothes. My brother and sister also get new clothes. My mum wash them so they are clean.”
“I get big shoes, big clothes, big hair, presents and candy.”
“It’s a full moon.”
“You can eat at night time.”
“You have to brush your teeth before you go to bed.”
“We eat lots of nice food.”
“And healthy food too, not sweet stuff.”
“Samosas.”
“Go to mosque and see family.”
“Eid Mubarak.”
