There’s been plenty of sunshine this spring and summer and so lots of opportunities for us to plant watercress, beans and garden herbs.
The children have been reading ‘Errol’s Garden’ to help them think about what plants to grow. We also loved hearing about how the children’s plants have grown from the seeds provided in the home learning packs. Thank you to families who brought in photos. Children have enjoyed investigating plant growth as well as drawing and painting pictures of beanstalks and flowers.
“I’m growing at home.”
“It’s the water makes it grow.”
“I draw the top of soil and the roots.”
“The sunflower grows tall. It’s taller than me.”
“My beanstalk is taller like this all the way to the sky.”
“The spider climbs up the tree. The spider climbs all the leaves and all the way, longer and up. The plant is tall.”
“A raindrop, it rains, the plants grow. I draw wind. It flushed them all away but the plant, it grows again.”
“The beanstalk grows taller. The rain comes down and the plants comes bigger.”
“I put the seed into soil. The seed grows like a beanstalk because I watered the plant. I put it on the windowsill. I opened the window and it was sunny and it grows.”
“The bean goes in the soil. I planted the bean and I get my hands all dirty. We watered the bean. We put the bean by the windowsill ‘cos it’s sunny. The bean grows like a ladder.”
“When the watermelon grows we have to take the seeds out.”
“I draw a beanstalk. The beanstalk does fee fi fo fum.”
